世にも恐ろしい纏足の作り方

纏足は、女の子が3,4歳ぐらいの時に行われました。それ以上になると骨が硬くなるからです。母親、祖母、親戚の女性が心を鬼にして作業をしたそうです。以下は纏足の作り方です。

【1】ニワトリを２羽用意します。ニワトリの胸を包丁で切り開き、女の子の足を片方ずつその中に突っ込みます。生きたニワトリの靴をはくようなイメージです。これは暖かい血と内臓で足を柔らかくするためです。

【2】血まみれになった足を取り出し、たらいの水で洗います。足をよくふいたあと、親指をのばして、その他の４本の指をしっかり握ります。それを力任せに足の裏に向けて折り曲げます。女の子が泣き叫んでも容赦せずに、バキッと一気に骨を折るのがコツです。

【3】長さ10ｍ、幅10ｃｍほどの布を用意して、作法にしたがった巻き方で足をしっかり巻いていきます。端まで巻き終わったら、針と糸で細かく布を縫いつけて固定します。もう片方の足も同じようにします。

【4】骨折で足はふくれあがり、焼けつくような痛みがありますが、寝たままだと美しい形にならないので、女の子を無理矢理歩かせます。膿が出て布が汚れると新しい布で巻きなおしますが、とがった足になるように前よりもきつく巻きます。

【5】数日歩かせたあと、茶碗のかけらを足の下にしきます。歩くたびにかけらが足に突き刺さり、肉がそげ腐っていくので、膿んだ肉や皮膚を削って、美しい形に整えます。
